Robert Leonard Hawkins, Age 21

Private, 36922, 10th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment.

Robert was the younger of the two sons of Robert & Phoebe Hawkins. He had originally enlisted in the 4th Battalion KSLI but had been transferred at some point to the Gloucestershire Regt, before enlisting he had worked for the Snedshill Ironworks and was connected to the Old Park Wesleyan Sunday School.
Robert was killed in action in France on April 18th 1918

The Hawkins family had quite a military past with William and Robert's grandfather having served in the Welsh Fusiliers and their great grandfather having fought at Waterloo where he had lost a leg.

No matter had much of a history the Hawkins family had had with the British army nothing could have prepared them for the loss of two sons and a son in law plus his brother.
